Atomic Mass Games Says Goodbye to X-Wing & Star Wars Armada
Atomic Mass Games announced today that they would end development on Star Wars: X-Wing and Star Wars: Armada. Sad times for all.
Popular Star Wars miniature games X-Wing and Armada are coming to an end, it seems. According to a new post from Atomic Mass Games, the developer will no longer be working on the two games. Though just because development is ending doesn’t mean the games are completely dead.
Organized Play and tournaments will still exist. But this seems like a heavy blow for the little miniature fighter game that revolutionized a whole new level of pre-painted miniatures and combat.
At any rate, let’s take a look at the official announcement.
Atomic Mass Games Ceases Development on X-Wing and Armada
Per Atomic Mass Games’ announcement, the chief reason is “rising production costs”:
After long and careful consideration, we are here today to announce the end of development on Star Wars™: X-Wing and Star Wars: Armada.
We are grateful for the community’s passionate engagement and support. Over the past few years, rising production costs, global manufacturing, and pandemic-related challenges have made it increasingly difficult to produce high-quality, pre-painted miniatures which ultimately lead to the decision to end development.

And it’s a crying shame because X-Wing leveled up the whole pre-painted miniatures game basically out of nowhere when it swooped in with S-Foils locked in attack position.
You would be hard-pressed to find cleaner pre-painted minis. But, alas, it seems they are expensive enough to make. It’s one of those rising problems in the industry. As things get more expensive, studios look for where they can cut costs. Sadly, this probably won’t be the last such occurrence.
But, though development is ending, Atomic Mass still has plans to support the game:
Although development is ending, we are not stepping away from these games entirely. Atomic Mass Games will continue to support tournaments and Organized Play for both games, with OP kits to be found in your local shops, culminating in the Open World Championship at AdeptiCon in March 2025.
In the meantime, time to go through the miniatures you have and figure out the best ships you can throw together for any upcoming tournaments. There’s always the Championship in 2025 to look forward to!
