Critical Role‘s new fantasy RPG Daggerheart just released its last “open beta” update, leaving you one last chance to shape the game!

Critical Role‘s publishing imprint Darrington Press has been making a pretty big splash with its upcoming new fantasy RPG, Daggerheart. Using a blend of Forged-in-the-Dark style mechanics, with a new focus on character customization and creation and an eye towards “campaign play”, this is an RPG meant to help you tell epic stories about cool little frog guys.

Which is, ultimately, all you really need in an RPG. But, if you’ve never played it, it scratches a similar itch to 5th Edition D&D, but, there are many key differences. The game is faster, a little more narrative-and-character-driven, which makes for a fun dynamic at the table. And, it’s still in Open Beta, which means your opinions might help shape the final version of the game. In the last few updates, we’ve seen the game get substantively different.

So, if you’re interested in the game at all, now’s the perfect time to jump in and play.

Daggerheart – Open Beta Playtest 1.5

Daggerheart version 1.5 is now available, and it is the LAST public update we’re making as part of this Open Beta Playtest! All your feedback now goes to making the final version of the game the best it can be. Open Beta surveys will be closed on July 31st, but for folks who want to continue playing and share comments, we’ll have a simple survey on Daggerheart.com to capture any feedback after that date. So until then, keep playing and bringing us your thoughts via the official surveys!

This is pretty exciting for Critical Role. Daggerheart has come a long way over the playtest. And even now, for this last one, there are still new features being added in:

  • All classes have been given a unique Hope Feature.
  • 2 new Environments and a new Location (“Soulsunk Sea”)
  • Campaign Frames have been added – use this collection of optional themes as a jumping off point to ground your table in the kind of stories you want to tell!
  • Minor damage thresholds have been eliminated, leading to broad rebalancing of thresholds for classes and adversaries.
  • All Experiences now start at +2.
  • Proficiency now takes 2 level up options to increase.
  • Leveling up now includes an option for taking an additional domain card at your level or lower.

You can take the new rules for a spin. The Open Beta will be open until July 31st, so get your friends together and play before it shuts down to prepare for launch.
