It’s Pride Month, which is the perfect time to talk about these three MTG Allies that would definitely watch your drink at a party.

Welcome Planeswalkers and Praetors to our ongoing series about the best casual experience in Magic: Commander.

Commander isn’t just about your one big guy/gal; it’s about the wealth of other cards that support them. Allies, in particular, love to look out for one another, and they have a lot of group buffs. They’re similar to Slivers in that way, though I’d argue they are not NEARLY as powerful. Still, if you get the Ally ball rolling, you can do some really exciting things. There isn’t a ton of support for this Zendikar creature type, but with these three Commanders, you can build a supportive, team-building deck.

What is Commander?

For the uninitiated, Commander is a semi-casual format for Magic: the Gathering. You use a deck of 100 cards led by a legendary creature, your Commander.

Aside from basic lands, you are only allowed one copy of each card in the deck. Moreover, you can only include cards in your Commander’s “color identity” or artifacts. Each color and color combo has a unique playstyle and a wealth of mighty generals to lead your deck to victory. EDHRec.com is an excellent source for Commander info and can give you ideas on how to build your next Commander deck or tune an existing one.

General Tazri

Tazri is the perfect Ally Commander and gives you access to all five colors for maximum diversity. When she hits the battlefield, she pulls out your favorite Ally, and for WUBRG, she gives your field a massive buff. Pack your deck full of blink effects so you can keep digging for the biggest hitters (and double up on all THEIR ETB triggers).

Tazri, Beacon of Unity

Tazri is such a big hitter she’s on the list twice. This one cares a little more about party than Allies, but she can still dig out the best ones. She falls a little behind her previous counterpart by not being an Ally herself, but she makes up for it with much higher stats. If you can combine the Ally and party mechanics, you’ll be all set.

Munda, Ambush Leader

Munda is all about deck fixing, and he makes all your Allies do the same. Boros needs all the help they can get to keep the good cards on top, so Munda brings the Thunda in that respect. Try to go hard and fast with this Kor, and you’ll be happy you did.

What do you think of these Commanders?
