D&D is really going all out for its 50th Anniversary celebration, including getting into stamps. You know, like for mail.

Stamps used to be little more than a feature you’d hear about in podcast ads from 2014-2019 when you’d hear Stamps.com and Nature Box butting into your comedy improv/true crime murder investigation/advice podcasts to tell you about Dark Cocoa Nom Noms and stamps for your small businesses. And while you’re still reeling from the temporal whiplash of thinking about the beforetimes, let me double down by saying stamps are back again.

Only this time, they’re here with D&D. At this year’s Gen Con, the US Postal Service will mark the 50th Anniversary of D&D with a whole new pane of 20 stamps. They’ll roll out at the convention, of course. But if you’re curious what will be on the stamps, there are plenty of previews to go around.

D&D Is Forever… Stamp

According to stampsforever.com, which has a preview of the pane, these stamps will celebrate the “cultural phenomenon” that is D&D:

With this pane of stamps, the U.S. Postal Service marks the 50th anniversary of ᴅᴜɴɢᴇᴏɴs & ᴅʀᴀɢᴏɴs, the iconic fantasy roleplaying game that has become a cultural phenomenon. By inviting participants to imagine themselves as wizards, warriors, and other adventurers in exciting and treacherous fantasy worlds, ᴅᴜɴɢᴇᴏɴs & ᴅʀᴀɢᴏɴs — now known worldwide by the familiar abbreviation “D&D” — opened doors to whole new universes of creativity for generations of players.

This pane of 20 stamps features 10 different designs that highlight characters, creatures, and encounters familiar to players of D&D.

There are 10 stamps all in all:

  • A bronze dragon
  • Tiamat
  • A wizard casting magic missile
  • Acererak
  • An adventurer in a maze
  • Drizzt Do’Urden
  • Larry Elmore’s cover of the Basic D&D Box
  • Death Knight leading an army of undead
  • A Purple Worm
  • Adventurer about to bathe in green dragon blood

Designed by Greg Breeding, these stamps will be issued on August 1st at Gen Con. So, philatelists and people who have to send actual mail alike, keep an eye out at this year’s GenCon.

And try not to think too hard about the beforetimes. It’ll only make you sad.
