The Force is With These Star Wars RPGs, Games, and Accessories
This whole month is for Star Wars, and we’re sending ourselves to a galaxy far far away with these RPGs, games, and accessories.
It was just May the Forth, and then Revenge of the Fifth, and then May 25th will be the (number redacted to not give anybody a crisis) anniversary of the first ever Star Wars film. Which makes May a full month of Star Wars. But let’s add a little to it with a few galactic game nights.
1. Age of Rebellion
If you’re into those D&D-style tabletop RPG games and Star Wars, this is a must-play. While the game was being produced, they came out with an absolute ton of sourcebooks covering everything from the bureaucratic center of the galaxy to the outer rim. Imperial, rebel, Jedi, or other, this is a game that lets you step onto whatever planet you want and play out your own story. Personally, I’m a fan of this game, but if you want something a little different, there’s the West End Games TTRPG, too.
2. The Special Dice
Fantasy Flight Games has a tendency to build their special proprietary dice into their game systems. On one hand, it’s annoying that I couldn’t use any of the hundreds of dice I already had. On the other, the way these are used in the FFG Star Wars system is really easy and lends itself well to rolling hefty handfuls of dice. How many of these do I have? Too many. Enough that during game nights I’ve been known to make towers until somebody needs that color.
3. Sabacc
If you want to pretend to be in Star Wars but also want a game to play, there are playable Sabacc decks out there! With similarities to Blackjack and Poker, this is its own, unique card game with a definite Star Wars feel.
4. The Clone Wars Pandemic
Has anyone else looked at their copies of Pandemic in the last few years and thought, “This brutal game that is difficult to win even with a full team used to be fun, but now it feels a bit on the nose?” No, just me? That’s okay. No matter why you may be looking for a game similar to Pandemic but different enough, there’s this Clone Wars variation. Instead of a global pandemic, you’re fending off separatists and Dooku’s droid armies. But every time you squeak out a win, something unravels on the other side of the galaxy or organization, teamwork, and a clear head are musts.
5. Villainous
But what if you’re sick as playing a Jedi? What if you just want to go feral? There are some Dark Side offerings for you! Villainous started out as a Disney-themed game based around all of the villains trying to out-villain each other. But it’s moved onto Star Wars as well as Marvel characters. Playing as Darth Vader, General Grievous, Asajj Ventress, Moff Gideon, or Kylo Ren, be the first to complete your goals and claim your title as the biggest baddy around.
Oh hey! BoLS might make a little dolla-dolla if you decide to buy these items. We need that money to buy more lightsabers for my lightsaber collection.
